All day I’ve been searching the Internet for the best Christmas cookie recipes, and the best way to get red wine out of a rug. And anything else other than doing what I really ought to be. It’s like I’m spinning and spinning, without really ever getting anywhere. I’m on the procrastination cycle.
Like right now, I’m putting off a lot of real work and a deadline, not to mention studying, so I can replace my header with something new. What you see (or should see) above was originally this photo:

The header just doesn’t do it justice, but since I’m no pro, as we know, I’m going to keep experimenting. I love a reason to procrastinate actual work. Actual paying work.
And if anyone has any tips for maintaining resolution when resizing in CS2, I really need them. Because I am dumb; even if it is simple and basic. I will trade you baked goods. Or super-secret gossip. Whichever you prefer.

The only tip I have is hold off on the red wine until you’ve finished resizing. Or at least don’t have so much that you are spilling it all over the carpet.
Actually the header looks awesome.

That is a beautiful picture!
I am great at putting things off as well. There are just so many more fun things that can be done instead of… working!

I really love the current header. I love the beach, so it will always appeal, but it is a beautiful color and is very fresh and light.
If you are working in photoshop… When resizing, if you tick ‘resample image’ (before changing the dimensions) the res should stay the same… Is this what you mean? My settings are 800pix width, 110 height at 72ppi. Hey, give it a go. No guarantees - good luck!
Technology is not my strength unfortunately so I am not sure this will help out! Just so you know… whilst I love a bit of goss, in truth it is the baked goodies I am after!

I can’t help with the graphic design stuff, but I will say that white wine really does take red wine out of light colored carpet. It sounds strange… and smelly, but it works.

The header is distorted. Send me the dimensions you want and the image and I’ll take care of it.
Also, if you need any tips on spilling wine; I’m your guy.

Your problem is with something called the “aspect ratio”. Basically you have flattened the picture and distorted relationship between width and height, kind of like a fun house mirror (which is only fun when they make you tall and thin!) You should start over with the original photo and resize it so the width is 740 pixels, and the height is proportionate. Next you want to select a section of the photo that is 135 pixels high and crop the photo. You will only get a cross section of the original photo, but I’m sure it will be stunning.
I really want to ride the procrastination cycle with you! I’ve been back 2 days and I’m already desperately hoping the weekend to hurry up and get here, and that I won’t have to work!

once you discover the secret to maintaining resolution please do share. I have a hard time even fitting the damn picture to size in the header. You’d think it was stupid proof - or maybe it is? What you may want to try is to crop the picture to size first and then upload it. It worked for me…somewhat…minus the fact taht it doesn’t quite fit the frame. Another trick may be to stick with panoramic view type pics.

One more thing to keep in mind the montior resultion settings as they differrent for each. Latest brands come with higher resolution ( > 1024×768, mine has 1280X960).
Your banner( also the page), aligned left , only spans 70% of my browser width, you may want to center your page.
I hacked into your ..style.css file (sorry), changing the width and height to match the resultion of your bgb.jpg file , should help
#banner
{
width: 740px;
background: url(’images/bgb.jpg’) top left no-repeat;
margin: 0 0 3px 0;
margin-left: auto ; margin-right: auto ;
height: 150px;
color: #fff;
}
Hope this help, now I am waiting for cookies
