Saving Monday, one vacation slide show at a time

by LesleyG on July 6, 2009

I know it can be annoying to a) look at someone else’s travel photos, b) listen to someone else’s music, and c) do both for a really long time.  But, the facts are that a) I traveled, and b) I decided to use iMovie for the first time this weekend. I still have some things to figure out, like why iMovie distorts the crap out of some photos or zooms in on blank spots, but overall I’m happy with it.

There’s beaches, people, dogs, booze, and food. Which pretty much covers all my needs in life.  Yee haw! Also, at about 2:40 in there’s a picture of a mahi sandwich that the cook caught me taking. When he asked why I was taking it I told him his fish sandwich would be going around the world. So, you know, let’s not disappoint him.

For eight and a half minutes of Monday morning escape, here’s my little experiment:

Untitled from Lesley G on Vimeo.

Music by: The Eagles, “Learn To Be Still” and Jason Mraz, “Live High”
Photos all by me.

This was the perfect addition to my breakfast. I watched the entire video, drank my coffee and pretended I was on vacation too.

I would like to say that I am happy for you, but I can’t. I am jealous. Bitterly, bitterly jealous. Okay, maybe a little happy.

I can’t seem to get this to play, I’ll have to try it on the other computer maybe, the one that I don’t have to shovel coal into the back of. And I wanted to go on holiday so much this morning!

Where do you book your vacays? I might want to copy you for a trip in a few months…

In the immortal words of Tina Fey: I want to go to there.

Thanks for not sparing me the pictures and for getting my Monday off to a good start.

The zooming is called the “Ken Burns Effect.” There are options in iMovie to change it so that you can select where the slide starts and where it zooms to, if you wish. I’d tell you how, but I’m not behind a Mac. (Once you figure it out, you’ll appreciate it more.)

Wonderful way to start off my Friday morning (little late viewing this!). Looks like your vacation was full of bliss. Oh, and I love Jason Mraz…
