It seems alluding to a race in which one runs through water is not the right thing to do, at least not on the Internet. Little did I know that anyone would be interested in hearing how I slogged through water for about a mile and then had to run another mile thereafter with soaking wet shoes filled with creek dirt. Like I said, hilarious race director.
The race is Part One of the Fall Series held by the Pikes Peak Road Runners. The four races are considered “true cross-country” courses and every effort is made to make them so. Because normally, you wouldn’t be caught dead running in the water of Monument Creek. Or at least I wouldn’t. And I ask myself why every. single. year.
Here are a couple photos from the website:

Those are photos from past years, though, and hence are before this year’s lovely course change. Maybe I’m blaming that course change too much, because we had a really wet spring and summer, which could be the cause of the high water levels, but I’ll tell you one thing for certain: my butt was wet, and I did not fall down.
I can’t lie, though, these races are a lot of fun. Sunday was especially lucky as the sun was shining and the temperatures were well above freezing; both good things when you’re soaking wet.
I just hope the next races are equally successful. I’ll be sure to share my tales of survival. For the next one, I think there’s a steep embankment we have to climb with a rope– a rope the size of dental floss. You’ll be sure to know when I’ve posted on that one because it’ll start with something like “so today I rolled down a hill with fifty people watching. Yay!”

um… WOW. that is all.
this looks super fun! we have a race here where you run through the mudflats. it is like less than a mile or something, but supposedly completely exhausting! you have to ducktape your shoes to your feet so they don’t get sucked off – i’m so down with that for mext summer!
Thanks! Oh, and you are crazy.
This is hilarious. I had no idea these things went on. But I mean of course they do.
See, there’s the difference between us – I would have stopped and turned around when confronted with a body of water to run through. Oh who am I trying to kid, I wouldn’t have started the run in the first place!
I love this!! What a great series of races and challenges and fun! And I have no doubt that it was a great time. The people who run it must be a lot of fun as well.
