And if she really does kill me, I still win– that’s how lucky I feel
by LesleyG on July 7, 2010
I realize that by just concentrating on the [expletive!] water bugs in my last post that it may seem to some that I didn’t really have anything else to say about the trip, and that I didn’t really appreciate being able to go. Neither of those is true. In fact, I can hardly explain here or anywhere just how fortunate I feel—both this time and every time— when I get to return from a trip to my favorite place and tell stories about it. I know every day that I’m lucky.
With each trip, it does become a little to easy for me to just expect to love it, to expect it to feel the way it does. I expect to spend time with friends, to meet new friends, to have a great time and remember, with each and every visit, just what it is I value in my life.
And sometimes, of course, what I value is doing nothing.
But there’s also the beautiful things, like this:
And this:
And this, our setting for dinner one evening when we just wandered down the beach and total strangers invited us in to join them:
Strangers, of course, that are now friends. And if I could tell you how many times that happened in the space of a few days, that strangers became friends, I’d bore you with how high I’d have to count.
And without a doubt, what really made this trip even more special, even more different than any other, was that I got to share it with my mom. My mom the trooper. My mom that will kill me when she learns I put this picture on the Internet.
But I’m willing to take the risk, because it was just that great.

these are great pictures…even the one you will get hurt for putting on there. what a great trip and wonderful memories
your mom is one sassy lady!
i think you need to do a post about how you end up going on these tropical vacations… your connection there and stuff. i think i kinda forget, though i know you’ve told me some of the story?
Holy crap that’s your mom!?!?!? She looks great! I swear to god I thought that was a pic of a friend you made while there. Someone, like, 30-years-old.
Your mom isn’t actually your sister, is she? She looks amazing, and I hope for your sake that you have inherited her anti-aging genes.
Those are gorgeous photos; they really do transport me.
I had the same reaction everyone above did. I hope I look as good as your mom when I’m her age! She looks about 25!
When I see your photography, all I can think is: 2011 Calendar! Seriously, I would pay to hang those pics at my desk and daydream about vacation every day!
Beautiful!!
I am glad you enjoyed!
Wow, those pictures are breathtaking! And your mom is one hottie… if she threatens you with death for that pic, just show her all these comments!
Thanks for the wonderful pictures… including the one of Mom!
Okay, this is just awesome!! I shared traveling outside the US with my daughter last month – I hope that it is the first of many adventures with her… I love that you traveled with your mom and hope that it was a fabulous time!!
And great pictures, as always!
What a great experience. It makes me miss my mom.
Are you and your mom ever mistaken for sisters? Wow!
That hammock picture is pure bliss.
Pure paradise… no wonder you keep going back again and again.
And your Mom? She can’t possibly complain about that pic – she looks gorgeous.
The pictures, the place, the mom, they all rock!
